This chart is for guidance only and should be read in conjuction with the ACCC Care Labelling for Clothing Guide which specifies the mandatory standards for care labelling based on the Australian/New Zealand Standard (AS/NZS) 1957:1998 Textiles - Care labelling with variations and additions made by Consumer Protection Notice No. 25 of 2010.

All DIA members and some New Zealand drycleaners have access to the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute (USA) resources.  There is a library of video resources that the DLI have produced and for the final week of our Safety and Risk month we are providing further information on two DLI videos:

You may have seen newspaper reports over the past few years regarding drycleaning and laundry plants that have burnt to the ground or suffered severe damage from fires.


There are many reasons why drycleaning and laundry plants experience a catastrophic fire event but one reason in particular is spontaneous combustion.

It is essential that all drycleaners are managing the safety and risks associated with the use of drycleaning solvents and other chemicals in a drycleaning business, as well as disposing of the waste correctly.

Too often an employee starts and they are given the bare bones of an induction, for example, they know where the toilet and break rooms are and that is about it.
